Flame Arrestor
Deflagration Flame Arrestor
Product Overview
The TFI is a threaded, in-line flame arrester for flammable gas and vapour piping connected to low-pressure storage tanks and gas handling systems. Its element contains narrow passages that absorb heat from an approaching flame and quench it, preventing flame propagation to the protected side within the specified application limits. The element assembly can be removed for inspection, cleaning and replacement.
Key Features & Benefits
Threaded Connections
Threaded ends connect directly to pipework with matching connection specifications.
Flame Quenching without Manual Actuation
The element arrests flame through heat absorption, requiring no manual action to initiate its flame-quenching function.
Vertical or Horizontal Installation
The unit accommodates vertical or horizontal piping arrangements, subject to the mounting requirements specified in the installation manual.
Bidirectional Gas Flow
Gas can flow through the unit in either direction, allowing installation to suit the system’s flow arrangement.
Removable Element Assembly
The body can be disassembled to access the element for inspection, cleaning and replacement, supporting regular maintenance of the flame-quenching passages
Applications & Selection Notes
Applications include low-pressure flammable gas transfer lines and storage-tank vent piping requiring in-line deflagration protection.
Before selection, confirm the following:
• Gas or vapour composition and the applicable explosion group.
• Operating pressure and temperature, required flow rate and allowable pressure drop.
• Material compatibility and threaded connection specifications.
• Potential ignition-source locations, piping length and configuration, and the required flame-arresting duty.
Selection must remain within the product’s documented application limits. Installation must follow the manual, with sufficient access for regular inspection and cleaning. Element passages must be checked for blockage, contamination and damage.
